We believe the number-one factor that will determine our success is our relationships with clients and would-be clients. They are everywhere, from that luncheon last week to the Facebook fan page, to the establishment you frequent, to gathering with friends. Everyone is a potential client. Now, it’s important to hear what I’m about to say next because I am an ANTI-SALESPERSON. It’s not about giving out your biz cards or your elevator speech to everyone at these places, it’s about showing a genuine interest in what THEY do and being a resource for them, whether or not it has anything to do with your actual business.
Liquis Design has officially been in business for 23 months and we’ve worked with 48 clients as of today. Out of those 48, only 8 of them found us online. Not only does this tell me we could be doing even better if I started focusing more on our online marketing efforts, but it mostly tells me that the relationships we have with our clientèle are the key to our success. There’s plenty of competition out there, but people naturally want to go with who they feel comfortable with and know can get the job done right. Today’s consumers are not looking to the Yellow Pages anymore, they’re looking to their friends… and then they’re checking out your website and past work to make sure you’re legit.
So if you’re lucky enough to be in business right now, don’t dig yourself into a hole by having a one-and-done attitude. One client can lead to many more. For us, 21 clients who knew us first either by friendship or networking events, turned into 40 clients now spreading the word. It’s easy, you just have to care… and then prove you have what it takes.
